Rothaus Hefe Weizen Alkoholfrei

Rothaus Hefeweizen Alkoholfrei is a German alcohol-free wheat beer from the Black Forest brewery Rothaus. Brewed with wheat malt, barley malt, hops and yeast, it has the cloudy appearance and fruity character traditionally associated with a Hefeweizen, with ripe banana, cereal and a subtle citrus note coming through.
At less than 0.5% ABV, the beer is designed to retain the fresh, fruity character of a traditional wheat beer while offering an alcohol-free alternative. Rothaus recommends it as a refreshing choice after sport or alongside food, and it can be enjoyed either from the bottle or poured into a traditional wheat-beer glass.

Appearance:

Hazy Ale amber, a good authentic head that remains rather than disappearing after a few seconds like so many other na beers. There’s also a good amount of malt sediment at the bottom of the bottle that I didn’t notice and poured into the glass, but its presence is a good thing in my book.
As the pint is consumed the head leaves rings down the glass.

Nose:

Really malty and full of hops notes, red apples, side tropical fruit notes, albeit faint and caramel. The aromas on this beer are far more prominent than many others on the market, it’s a real treat to smell an na beer with such a strong profile.

Taste:

The first sip is a refreshing mix of honey, malt, the red apple and distant tropical notes. There’s a good level of gas, not too fizzy but adding another sensation behind the more flat options.

Finish:

Tangerine, apples and honey. The finish is long on this beer and the lovely flavours linger for a good amount of time.

Overall:

It’s a superb beer and would probably fool many into thinking it was alcoholic, but, to be honest, it doesn’t matter that it’s not, it’s fantastic in its own right! I love the flavour profile and long finish.

Drink With:

BBQ, just with friends.

Would I buy Again?:

Definitely, it should be in everyone’s fridge.
