Mash Gang Chug IPA is a modern, alcohol-free IPA from UK brewery Mash Gang, designed to deliver the bold, hop-forward character associated with a full-strength IPA without the alcohol.
Chug is built around bright citrus and tropical hop flavours, with a balance of bitterness, sweetness and refreshing drinkability. Like many contemporary alcohol-free IPAs, the challenge is to retain the aroma, body and complexity normally provided by alcohol while keeping the finish clean and approachable.
Appearance:
Hazy amber. Very little fizz and no head after the initial pour.
Nose:
Immediate vibrant tropical fruits, reminiscent of Starburst or Tropical Chewits. Malt, lychee and honey notes are present too.
Taste:
Citrus hits first with lemon and lime, the tropical flavours follow quickly (remember Lilt?!). The malt and some earthy/mineral notes complement the sweetness well. A very faint bitterness towards the finish but nothing off-putting at all. The further through the glass I get, the more prominent the citrus bitterness and hops become.

Finish:
All the notes linger for a short period, the tropical and citrus flavours last the longest. There’s also a little of the honey.
Overall:
It’s got decent depth and a nice balance of flavours. A lovely refreshing fruity beer!
Drink With:
Friends who enjoy beer and its finer points (and BBQ!)
Would I buy Again?:
I would, when it’s on offer.
