Primátor Free Mother in Law is a Czech alcohol-free India Pale Lager (IPL), combining the clean, refreshing character of a lager with the more pronounced hop character normally associated with an IPA. Brewed by Primátor in Náchod, it uses three types of malt and a combination of Czech and American hops, including Rubín, Harmonie, Vital, Summit and Citra. At 0.5% ABV, it is unfiltered and dry-hopped, giving the beer a golden-copper colour, fuller body and noticeable citrus and floral hop character. With a reported bitterness of around 28 IBU, it offers considerably more hop presence than a conventional alcohol-free lager.
Appearance:
Pours weakly, with a nice head and smooth viscous appearance. A little hazy and amber/orange hue. The head soon disappears almost entirely.
Nose:
Floral, hops forward with citrus and subtle tropical notes. Some sweeter honey scents appear after a few sniffs. A little lychee now too.
Taste:
Still floral with citrus and prominent hops notes, with a fair amount of cloying bitterness now. A little fizz as a nice refreshing layer.
A sour lime element, as well as honey, appear after a while along with a faint red berry sharpness.
Finish:
The lime, floral notes and bitterness last for quite a while. A little astringency shows up right before the flavours disappear.
Overall:
It’s ok, a little chemical tasting and bitter for my taste but not unpleasant. It’s pretty slightly more prominent honey or caramel.
Drink With:
Nuts
Would I buy Again?:
I don’t think so, but I like the can!
